Name: Mike Bellamy on Mar 3, 2010Comments: As Chairman at Mickleover Community Centre, I realise that we are in a very fortunate position with the Tea Rooms bringing in vital income plus many active user groups able to pay our room rental charges so that we are able to maintain our independance and pay a full time Manager. Many other Centres are not so fortunate and the central support they receive from the City Council if essential to enable them to remain open. Even in a very active Centre like ours, it is difficult to get committee members and I would expect this to be even harder for the other Centres which are not so well used.Flag

Name: Joanna S Jennens on Mar 22, 2010Comments: The community centres in Derby play an important role in lives of many people in the city. It is important in these difficult times that community centre facilities are avaliable to all that need them. Properly funding community centre ensures that they can still provide the lifeline to people in community and the other agencies that use them as a point of contact with the local users.Flag

In addition to many other services for young and old alike. Our community needs these venues!Flag

Name: Ann Limbert on Mar 31, 2010Comments: I am petitioning for the Mickleover Community Centre as this is the Centre that I know and love. Although there has been considerable development around Mickleover we still think of this as a Village Community and talk of shopping in the Village and meeting at the Community Centre. There are many people, young and old, who drop into the centre to meet for coffee, a chat, a workout or to visit the WI day. How can you contemplate taking something from this community that means so much. We have our local shops, Library the Community Centre and Post Office. Is it to be taken away from us without a backward glance? Then there is the planned development around Mickleover. Overdeveloped, no infrastructure with the roads already being far too busy and careless drivers speeding along our roads. It's about time that someone stood up for us. I have lived here for just over 35 years and the changes are horrendous. At one stage I had cows on my doorstep, now I have mindless idiots trying to destroy my garden. Leave Mickleover alone otherwise you will destroy it.Flag

Name: Sue Baker on Apr 2, 2010Comments: Community Centres are so vital in helping keeping communities together and providing places for young and older people to meet. We need to keep local services, especially for young people as if we do not it will have a knock on effect on the community and cost more money in the end.Flag

Name: Catherine Roelich on May 20, 2010Comments: I have regularly visited Mickleover Community Centre since moving to Derby in 1991. I have used the soft play and toddler group facilities when my children were little. I still use the tea-room which has a friendly and sociable atmosphere. I have also attended various charity fundraising fairs and there is always a buzz around the place which comes from it being a well-used venue by many local groups.Flag

Name: Cllr Barbara Jackson on Aug 16, 2010Comments: It was with dismay that I heard that funding for the five community centres in Derby may be withdrawn by the Tory-controlled council. The funding required is £130,000, a small price to pay when the Tory/Lib Dem is refurbishing the Council House at a cost of over £34 million. Please reconsider !!Flag
