Name: Deanne Ferguson on Dec 3, 2012Comments: Sure starts are key for families with small children helping to provide affordable childcare to assist them to b able to go out and work. Private childcare costs for full time placement in the region of £750.00 plus. Without the sure starts help most families are unable to work. I've already seen too many close in my area and the affect this is having on not only the parents but the children as well.Flag

Name: Dot Foster on Dec 6, 2012Comments: Sure Start Nurseries provide childcare for working parents who would otherwise not be able to afford to work. They also in some cases provide wrap-around care for primary school children. Without the services they provide there is no opportunity to work for many parents, trapping them in a cycle of poverty and dependance on benefits. Calderdale Council are looking to save money by closing these nurseries. They seem to be unaware that closing them will cost them more in the long term, and the detrimental effect of the lack of childcare provided has huge implications for the future of a great deal of families.Flag
