Name: Lynn Horsnett on Jan 7, 2013Comments: Is there now a general consensus that ordinary people should not only pay the lion’s share of a recession they did not create, but they should now be entirely priced out of justice and be left in the cold? Surely the small cost of supporting the Birmingham Law Centre and Citizens advice Bureau's would be massively outweighed by the longterm benefits to people and families who use them? We know it is those on low or no incomes, who cannot afford to pay for lawyers, mainly it is vulnerable people, elderly, women, children and the disabled who are more reliant on drop in legal advice centres. I wonder, if you aren’t in a trade union with free legal services and you either lost your job, had mounting debts, were being harassed by your landlord, threatened with bailiffs, got turfed out of your home, lost your vital social or care services, suffered abuse, your family break ups, you were accused of a crime you did not commit…whatever your problem you can’t cope and need a legal expert to guide you. Where would you turn? Do you think those making these poor funding decisions rely on law centres or do you think they can afford their own lawyer? This society ain't big and it ain't clever but is extremely unjust and unfair! Do the right thing support people in Birmingham at a time when they need it most.Flag

Name: Gareth Thomas on Jan 7, 2013Comments: The present sustained government attack on some of the vulnerable members of our society makes services such as BLC crucial to a healthy and functioning community. BLC is not merely a desirable service to support, it is an essential community service provider that must not be lost.Flag

Comments: We need this service - St Martins helpdesk was closed in May 2012 due to funding cuts - we cannot ignore the most vulnerable in society by denying them access to services such as these.Flag -

Name: Janet Gurney on Jan 7, 2013Comments: Access to legal advice is crucial in the current climate where claimants are being so hard pressed. Legal Advice ensures that claimants are able to access their rights. It will prove more costly in the long run if advice services are not maintained as the knock on effects on other services wil be far more costly.Flag

Name: Anna Povey on Jan 7, 2013Comments: With the soaring cuts to Legal Aid, the ever changing law on benefits and other legal rights puts vulnerable people at even further risk of losing their meagre but much needed financial support. Please enable your neighbours to have access to advice that can preserve their dignity. That is something we can all take pride in.Flag

Name: Jill Mohamed on Jan 7, 2013Comments: The Law Centre is a vital service, closure will deny access of the most vulnerable to services which support human rights, which would not otherwise be available to them in the context of ongoing reduction of provision of legal services by solicitors' firms and other organisations in the areaFlag

The BCL have been providing me with excellent advice and were willing to help when places like the CAB couldn't. I very much hope this petition persuades those in charge to take action in saving this organisation.Flag

Name: Philip Monk on Jan 7, 2013Comments: The Law Centre has assisted a great many people in poverty over the years. To lose such a organisation will mean that these people will struggle to deal with the massive changes that are on the horizon in the coming year. It will place people further in poverty and cost the local authority more in the long term.Flag
