Name: Nigel Simons on Jan 6, 2013Comments: Over the years Birmingham Law Centre has saved thousands of families from homelessness and often starvation, helped thousands of people fight loss of rights and benefits deprivation through maladministration, fought successfully to change unfair government practice (Clue) and advised thousands of people on debt and other issues. Its loss will be a monumental tragedy for the people of Birmingham and a shameful indictment on the total lack of compassion shown by BCC for the very people that voted for them.Flag

Name: Karen Strangward on Jan 7, 2013Comments: I am very upset to hear that once again this government are making cuts, that will affect the people that can least afford it. The law centre is a lifeline for many people who could not otherwise afford to fight for their legal rights. My daughter, at the time a trainee Hairdresser, was represented by Trevor Allsopp from the Birmingham Law Centre, who went above and beyond the duties of a solicitor, to fight for her rights. How else would a minimum paid worker, get help to take on a global company, without financial aid? I hope that there will be a another lifeline for the Law Centre, because this department would be a great loss to Birmingham and our society.Flag

Name: Joy Street on Jan 7, 2013Comments: A law centre is as vital as CAB or CVS and should be guaranteed funding in order to protect the interests of those who are poor and in dire straits. It is a matter of humanity and simple justice. As more people find themselves in changing economic circumstances beyond their control, demand will rise and the law centre should be seen as something which prevents further degradation of individuals who might then become wholly dependent on the state and necessitate greater taxpayer expense.Evaluations of effectiveness over the years should support this view.Flag
