The project to build terminal groins on Beer Can Island has been officially cancelled. We are currently reviewing the final administrative filings to ensure the shoreline status remains protected. Thank you for maintaining the pressure that forced this outcome.

We petition the Manatee Board of County Commissioners and the City of Longboat Key to vote against the building of a 3 Terminal Groins (jetties) on Beer Can Island - Sections 120.569, 120.57, F.S. and 120.60(3), F.S.

Help us save our slice of paradise!

The real issue here is that 2 condos were built too close to the shoreline and because of the erosion they are causing, 3 Terminal Groins will be built on Beer Can Island to fix the problem. We can stop that! Sign the petition.

The volume of support has now reached a scale that demands a formal response from the Manatee Board of County Commissioners. I am currently drafting a letter to the planning department to request a meeting on the record. I will provide an update once a time for that session is confirmed.

So many memories on that sandbar. Watching the sunset there is the best part of living in longboat. Why ruin natural beauty for a few wealthy condo owners?

My grandfather took me out there when I was a kid. You cant just destroy a spot like this for some condos that shouldnt have been built there in the first place. Leave it alone!

Ridiculous that the public has to pay the price for bad planning by developers. Keep the jetties out.
