Comments: It is not acceptable anymore that inmates mail is taking so long to get to us or the inmate. There are periods where it is ok, but those periods are getting less and and less.

Comments: I support this Petition, everyone has a right to keep in contact with family, friends and loved ones, no matter where they are. Mail should be handled in the correct manner, and not held on to, which seems to happen alot these days in USA prisons

Comments: We have, unfortunately, been on the receiving end of having mail returned on occasion for specious reasons. Additionally, many of our friends in East Block and North Seg. have informed us that they received three letters from us in one day, even though the letters were written many weeks apart. For the sake of the men themselves, and their families and friends, we respectfully request an overhaul of the S.Q. mailroom, particularly removing any correctional officers who commit injustices against the inmates and their families and friends without cause. Thank you.

Comments: Personal accountability: When mailroom people decide they need to return our mail to us for some reason, they should have to put some ID on it, like initials & date, or badge number. Then could see if it's 1 person doing most of returns... and they'd be more likely to return only for legit reason if ID on it... plus, if someone calls about returned mail, Lt. or Sgt. would know who it was. Just a thought.

Comments: We have been writing to men on death row at S.Q. for well over two years. Not only has mail been greatly delayed in being given to the men, but unfortunately we have received letters and short newspaper clippings back for no legitimate reason. Please employ people in the mail room who have a sense of fairness and a good work ethic, and employ enough of them so that all mail will be given to the inmates in a timely manner. Thank you!

Comments: I know what you are talking about. It is so hard when you don't get mail when that is the only way of contact due to a lockdown. Many of my mail was lost, or never given too. Most of my mail comes 2 weeks after it was sent. So I think this is so wrong and I hope my signature will help.

Comments: How fast the mail is delivered to the inmates depends always on the goodwill of the mailroom staff, and it is no secret that they mess intentionally with the letters and the packages. This needs to be stopped! Recently needed the mail only 1-2 weeks to reach the inmate, so I wonder why they've slowed down again

Comments: It is difficult not getting mail from the one you love so much, especially when you know there are alot of letters laying in the mailroom for you. There has been alot of frustration because of that. I have to make sure that I send out a birthdaycard more than a month in advance and then I still have to hope he will get it in time. He has to read old news from 4-6 weeks before that. It has been hard for us as I know it also is for others. Could you please do something about this, so this will get much easier for us

Comments: This is a disgraceful violation of human rights. There simply is no excuse for it and the people responsible ought to be sacked immediately and replaced by people who take inmate welfare seriously and regard prisoners as human beings.

Comments: The San Quentin Inmates have a right to receive their mail and pictures and in a very timely Manor not seven weeks after the letter was sent. Please fix the mail situation at San Quentin. Everyone deserves to get their letters and pictures from their loved ones

Comments: You simply have to follow your own policies and deliver the mail to the inmates in a timely manner. Otherwise, isn't it a bit like mail tampering, which is a Federal offence. Personally, I send my mail to my husband with Delivery Confirmation to PROVE that it got to the prison. THEN, I can find out if it was delivered or not. You have no right to deny a prisoner his/her mail.

Comments: Other prisons can process incoming and outgoing mail in a matter of days. Prisons just as overcrowded - and in many cases more overcrowded than San Quentin. There is no real excuse as to why San Quentin cannot do the same.

Comments: It is extremely difficult to keep up a relationship when the mail received from the prisoner is 30 days old. They cannot respond to important timely information. Everything is old news. Other prisons manage to deliver the mail in just a few days, such as RJ Donovan. Talk to the prisons that are successful and follow their procedures.
