The undersigned voters support public education in Sandwich and are very concerned that a majority of the Sandwich School Committee has irresponsibly put the Town in financial jeopardy and diminished the value of the education being provided to the students of Sandwich.
We respectfully request that the Sandwich School Committee immediately extend the contract of Superintendent Mary Ellen Johnson.
We also support the removal of members Marshall, Crossman, Kangas and Linehan either via resignation, recall, or defeat at the next scheduled election.
We would also encourage the teachers of Sandwich to elect a new union leader as soon as possible so that the District is able to begin moving forward in a responsible and progressive manner.
We have received several inquiries as to why we have chosen to sponsor the petition anonymously.
Who we are is irrelevant.
WHO signs the petition IS VERY relevant.
Far too many people have made claims about "representing the community" but far too many of these groups represent only their own interests --or their own egos.
The message that people should take home from reading this petition is that these very specific people are fed up with the way our local government is operating (or not operating!) Who cares who set up the petition?
You can always read who has signed the petition by clicking the "signature" tab. There is no spin -- the only changes we make is to review the list of signers and eliminate any obvious fakes or any signatures labelled "anonymous".
If you don't want to put your name to your convictions -- don't bother signing.
I have no idea what the response will be. But I do appreciate the assistance of everyone out there who has started to give this a wide exposure in an effort to gauge public opinion.
Thanks again for your help.
