The Salvation Army Needs Our Help
As I have shopped around town for family and friends this Christmas Season, I have noticed the Salvation Army volunteers who collect donations in the familiar kettles are strangely silent - and - outdoors. I stopped and asked a few why the change. Apparently, one of the reasons is that the store managers have requested they not be inside ringing bells as this irritates the cashiers. Why are they not in the malls ringing bells to hail the season and draw us near They are not allowed - there are no cashiers in the mall. I for one highly admire the Salvation Army as they are oftenly the first on the scenes of housefires, local and national disasters not to mention the good they do for the homeless, cold and hungry. They are run by donations - from us and yet we make them stand outside or off to the side with no hallmark bells or dialog Our cities and towns are better places because of people like these who give straight from the heart. One day, you may need them, will they be there Please sign to bring the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Volunteers back inside with bells ringing to warm our charitable hearts and show them our gratitude back for what they do for us.
