Cheryl Cisneros | Please allow the citizens of Salem to raise and keep chickens on their property. Backyard flocks have always been allowed in my small town of Alvin, TX and offer healthy, nutritious, hormone free eggs and meat. If noise is a concern, simply allow hens or limit the number of roosters.

Jean Tucker | Small flocks of hens represent no problems for anyone. Up to 4 hens on a town lot is no problem. Larger lots should be allowed more birds.

Rhonda Jewell | Chickens make wonderful pets. Hens make very little to no noise and provide food. What animal could possibly be better than that?

David Brown | I agree that people should be able to provide their families with fresh wholesome foods as they see fit. Chickens, when properly cared for, improve the soil, reduce insects and prevent the need for artificial fertilizers, while not adding to any type of polution. This day and age of industrialized farming, the use of hormones and antibiotics have distroyed the nutritional quality of the foods we have to choose from in grocery stores. It is time we all are allowed to take our own health and well being in hand and can be a little self-reliant. Chickens should be allowed to be kept within City limits!

Anonymous | Chickens are a LOT cleaner and quieter than a DOG!!! Do your homework folks and you will see that this is so true. We have had them for years and have had not one tick bite or a mosquito problem since. And the eggs are THE BEST!!!
Anonymous | My husband just accepted a job in Salem, VA. Now that I know my 4 hens cannot accompany us to your town, we will be looking for Real Estate in Roanoke City.
