Name: Anna DeMers on Dec 8, 2012Comments: I was outraged to read about this in the November issue of Silent Sports. I get the DNR weekly updates and never saw anything on this in there. I use the parks a lot, and would feel much less safe knowing that people could be hunting close to me. I am not against hunting, I am against having my recreational space be taken away, when hunters already do have space to hunt on other state land, and I have to be aware of them there. I don't want to have to be aware of what the hunting seasons are and what I need to wear if I just want to go for a hike.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Dec 8, 2012Comments: Believe me--if this goes into effect--when I walk in the state parks with my blaze orange vest--I will carry and use airhorns and blare loud music to alert hunters of my presence! I don't mind giving up 10 days in November for the hunters, but 7 months--give me a break!Flag

Name: Fritz Goebel on Dec 8, 2012Comments: This is simply too dangerous and must not be allowed to happen. The parks belong to all the citizens of Wisconsin, all year long. Turning gun-wielding hunters loose for part of the year denies us the right to use our parks in a safe manner.Flag

Name: Don Lorenz on Dec 8, 2012Comments: The Heritage Sportsman Act 168 is a ludicrous piece of legislation. As written, it will displace all non-hunters and trappers from state parks from Oct. 15 till the week before Memorial Day. We ride horses in a number of the state parks in the spring and fall (summer is too hot and buggy). Horses and hunting do not mix, so we will not be riding in the state parks anytime hunting is allowed. I am also a hiker, biker and photographer and I won't be using the state parks during any hunting seasons (including small game hunting). I am a Viet Nam vet and an ex-hunter, so I know guns and hunting. I own guns and do not have a problem with hunting, as long as it is kept out of the state parks (except for regular gun deer season late in November). I do have a problem with this legislation, as it displaces other users from our state parks. Hartman Creek and other state parks have designated horse, hiking and biking trails and allowing hunters into those areas from Oct. 15 till May 25 will displace a huge number of people from our state parks. Families, people wanting quiet and solitude, hikers, bikers, skiers, photographers won't like sharing their park trails with hunters and guns. Our legislators should be ashamed of themselves, as they have created a poorly-written (but mandated with hard dates) piece of legislation that takes away people's rights to use our state parks they way they have been used for many years.....what a travesty!!! Do the right thing and delay the implementation of Act 168 until all safety and legal issues for each park are resolved. Thank you,Flag

Comments: Please examine the impact of this legislation further. There are wildlife and nature photographers out here, bike riders, hikers, children, people with pets, and many more who will NOT be able to use the parks safely if this legislation is implemented. The state is likely to lose state park revenue if people can't stay there safely. All you need is one MAJOR accidental shooting or trapping to result in LAW$UIT that will be expensive for the state and tragic for the "accident" victim and their family.Flag -

Name: Lucie Burns on Dec 9, 2012Comments: Parks are used all year around. This will make it unsafe for recreational use. I do not trust that all trappers will be responsible enough to collect all their traps. This is bad policy and will keep me out of Wisconsin State Parks.Flag

Name: Karen Alesch on Dec 9, 2012Comments: Please reconsider Act 168. I am not against hunting, but feel that there is plenty of public hunting land in the state. Allowing hunting in state parks puts the public in danger. I frequent a number of state parks for recreation all year long. I will not use the parks during these months if hunting is allowed. It is very disappointing.Flag
