Only 68% of teens use condoms during intercourse. Putting condom machines in our highschools will make this number grow while making teen pregnancy and STI rates decrease. This initiative is not to encourage teenage sex, but to promote safer sex. Most teens do not buy condoms since they can become expensive and young adults buying them is frowned upon. Making condoms cheaper and easily accesible should improve teens sexual health.

Updates

May 6, 2009

I have been hearing from so many people who are tired of the stigma surrounding basic health access for our students. My inbox is full of messages from parents and classmates who know this is a practical necessity for our school hallways. I am working on gathering more resources from community clinics to present to the board next.

Seeing this movement grow has been incredibly emotional for me because I remember how much I struggled to find resources when I was a student. This level of support proves that our community cares about protecting the health of our kids. We are finally starting a conversation that should have happened years ago.

Finally some common sense. Kids are gonna do what they want anyway so we might as well keep them safe from diseases and unplanned babies.

About time. It is so awkward trying to buy these at the drugstore when you are 16. This would help a lot of people.
