Dear fellow Sunset View Parents: The recent tragedy that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut has shaken us so much that we feel compelled to reach out to you. This horrific shooting deeply saddens us for the losses to the families & communities, especially during the holiday season. Sandy Hook Elementary reminds us so much of Sunset View Elementary, with the young children from Kinder to 4/5th Grades. All those precious little lives remind us of our own children going to Sunset View. Perhaps this is one of the reasons this tragedy has torn our hearts. While reflecting upon this terrible tragedy, we feel a need to share with you our concerns over the campus' current security measures, a few examples: • There are many different access points on the campus that remain open during the day. • People are able to come in and out of the campus without any security check. • We are unaware of any intercom or security monitoring system in place. (Details from Sandy Hook’s tragedy have shown that this type of system helped save lives by warning staff of an emergency!) We certainly hope that this tragedy would not ever happen to our children. However, the current status of an “Open Campus” with limited security check concerns us. We strongly believe there is an urgent need for a campus security review. We would like to voice our concerns to relevant governing bodies. We want to ensure our children will be better protected in 2013. Just in case some weird big bad wolf/wolves start having ideas on our children, we know at least we as parents have done something to secure the campus for our children.
