Dear fellow Sunset View Parents: The recent tragedy taken place at Sandy Hook Elementary of Connecticut has shaken us so much that we feel compelled to reach out to you. This horrific shooting made us sick to our stomachs and sad for those broken families, especially during the holiday season. Sandy Hook Elementary reminds us so much of Sunset View Elementary, with the young children from Kinder to 4/5th Grades. All those perished previous little lives reminded so much of our own children going to Sunset View. Perhaps this is one of the reasons that this tragedy has grabbed our hearts so deeply. While reflecting upon this terrible tragedy, we feel compelled to share with you our concerns over the campus' current security measures, a few examples: • There are many different access points on the campus that have remained unchecked throughout the day. • People come in and out campus pretty much without any security check. • We are not informed by the school if there is any intercom, security monitoring system in place on a regular basis. (It has proved from Sandy Hook’s tragedy that this type of system has greatly helped disseminating information in case of emergency and it has saved lives!) We are fortunate so far nothing bad has happened to our children. However, the current condition of an “Open Campus” without any security check greatly concerns us. We strongly believe it is the time NOW for a campus security review. We would like to voice our concerns to relevant governing bodies. We want to ensure our children will be under better protection in 2013. Just in case some weird BIG BAD WOLF/WOLVES start having ideas on our children, we know at least we as parents have done something to better secured the campus for our children.
