Please sign this petition if you are interested in the installation of a traffic light (or 4-Way Stop) including a pedestrian crosswalk with a “Walk-Don’t Walk” crossing signal at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and East and West Oak Streets

We need a safe intersection for our Maury Elementary Students, their Families and all Pedestrians to cross Commonwealth Avenue in Rosemont!  There is not a single Stop Sign or Traffic Light on Commonwealth Avenue between King Street and Braddock Road and the intersection at Commonwealth and Oak Street is most frequently used by Maury Families.

Although there is a crossing guard at this intersection at the start of school in the morning and in the afternoon at dismissal, there are many hours that students (and other pedestrians) are crossing this intersection without a crossing guard.  In addition to the start and end of school, children cross Commonwealth daily to use the Maury playground, to attend after school activities and evening school events, and to practice and play games in City recreation sports leagues.  Moreover, during summer months, there is no crossing guard assigned at any time for any crossing of Commonwealth Avenue in Rosemont.

This intersection is not safe as it is!  Drivers simply do not stop for pedestrians in crosswalks.  In addition it seems as if the volume of traffic on Commonwealth continues to increase to avoid other clogged roadways.  The lack of any posted and/or lighted Pedestrian Crosswalk Signs combined with elementary students is dangerous.

Please show your support for the safety of the children in the community by signing this petition asking the City to create a safe pedestrian crossing on Commonwealth Avenue in Rosemont/Rosemont Park.
