Residents of Crescent, Spring Garden and Sydney Street\'s: Recent events in our neighborhood have been alarming. -Numerous cars belonging to residents have sustained substantial damage by hit-and-run drivers. -Family pets have been hit and seriously wounded or killed by the heavy influx of morning traffic. -A number of property owners have found their driveways blocked by out-of-towners hurrying to catch a train. (To make matters worse, these "visitors" who should respect our neighborhood instead regularly clean our their cars and leave their garbage in our streets.) -The number of vehicle stops by BPD for speeding and failure to stop is astronomical. Have you had enough None of us would mind if these visitors or passers-by were respectful of our neighborhood, but they are not. Many are thoughtless drivers who treat our streets as nothing more than a parking lot for the MBTA or a shortcut in an effort to avoid traffic. Their hitting our pets costs us hundreds and thousands of dollars in vet bills each year (and the perpetrators can\'t even be bothered to STOP!). It won\'t be long before we or are children are hit or even killed by one of these thoughtless drivers. If you\'re ready to say \"enough\", this is your opportunity to be heard with this \"SAFE in your neighborhood\" petition. \"SAFE\" = Sane Alternatives For Existence. Suggested alternatives to date: Resident-only parking, reverse traffic patterns, speed deterrants and the development of unused land for MBTA parking (there\'s an undeveloped lot next to Shaw\'s, but the City would rather make our streets unsafe than spend the $$$ to develop that land). However, none of these will be possible without your support.
