We, the undersigned, residents of Waterbury, Vermont wish to lower the current 40 mph speed limit on Guptil Road in Waterbury Center. The current speed limit is unsafe for residents and visitors who utilize the road by car, bike, or foot. The current speed limit  was established decades ago. Since then, residential density has grown, and traffic of all sorts has increased. In addition, there are now two home daycares and a golf course on the road, which leads to more cars stopping and turning. For residents of Guptil Road, the current speed limit impedes on quality of life, making it unsafe to walk or bike on the road and dangerous to pull out of driveways. This year, we have already seen several accidents and close calls, including one accident that sent two people (including a young child) to the hospital. Lowering speed limits is a proven way to reduce overall driving speeds, and while not a complete solution, is a necessary and positive step toward ameliorating the current situation.  Thank you for supporting the safety and well-being of our Town.
