We, the undersigned, respectfully request that the Government of South Australia, Adelaide City Council and appropriate Retail Associations give proper weight to the wishes of the wider community. We hereby ask that the above consider our proposal for DESIGNATED SMOKING AREAS in Rundle mall, Adelaide. Australian State and territories have laws that prohibit smoking in restuarants, bars, and shopping centres. But still millions of children, and adults are unwillingly subjected to second hand smoke in Rundle Mall. \"Passive\" smoke contains more than 4000 chemicals that are dangerous to your health. Some of the diseases than second hand smoke causes can kill you. Opening a window, using ventilation, air conditioning or a fan does not elminate passive smoke, therefore the arguement that Rundle Mall is an \"open air\" mall does not stand. We ask that the mall be treated as any other shopping centre and reject the claim that such action would impact on retailers. We note the success of a similar initiative for the Queen Street Mall in Brisbane. Sincerely, Undersigned.
