Name: Mary Ann Beavis on Jul 30, 2008Comments: The un-invitation of Rosemary Radford Ruether is yet another very disturbing example of violations of the principle of academic freedom at Catholic colleges and universities. It's shameful and disgraceful; Professor Ruether should be re-invited, along with an abject apology.Flag

Name: Rosemary Ganley on Jul 30, 2008Comments: We Canadian reformers are dismayed at this action which carries international chill for academic freedom as well. We know and admire Rosemary Ruether's prodigious work for a better church and world, and believe that the USD community would gain tremendously from her presence and work. Your awkward process and flawed decision diminishes your claim to be an institution of higher learning where brave inquiry is encouraged. Rosemary Ganley Coordinator Catholics for Choice, CanadaFlag

Name: Theresa Yugar on Jul 30, 2008Comments: I hope that the University of San Diego will recognize the implications of their actions, not just a local level, but on a national and international level as well. As her student, I can only say that it is your loss, as an institution, not to provide your students and staff with access to a woman of such academic caliber, who are is also extremely commitment to the social justice teachings of the Roman Catholic church.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jul 30, 2008Comments: People with natural God-given gift should not be discriminated just on the basis of gender or sex. It is all against UN Human Rights Declaration and humanity. Each person is given the gift of God for others and the opportunity should be equal for all : women and men. We urge USD to compensate Professor Ruether with the full payment originally negotiated and set forth in the formal invitation. Thank you for your consideration of our concerns and proposed remedies. We look forward to a timely resolution lest not only the reputation of the University of San Diego. We also urge all Catholic institutions to respect academic freedom and not to discrination and division among people. Only then we can call ourselves Children of God in the service of humanity. Sincerely, Rosaline Costa Human Rights AdvocateFlag
