This petition is being created because we as the residents and greater population of Rowley Hall at Marymount University feel that we should be refunded our room and board money for the Spring Semester of 2012. We have all lost essential sleep from the construction in Rowley going on during the past 4 months. Each morning BEFORE 8 am most of the time, the residents of Rowley Hall wake up to hammering and a jackhammer as well as yelling from the construction workers. Throughout the day, the smell of smoke from cigarettes and a cigar (we all know who this man is) flood each and every room; not to mention the sickening amount of dust spread throughout the building. Over the past 4 months, residents have stepped into cold showers multiple times because of the construction workers' acts of carelessness. We didn't do anything for these workers to come into our living space, which we are paying for, to constantly disrupt our daily lives trying to enjoy our first or second year of the college experience. We know that the faculty and staff at Marymount are doing this project for us to make Rowley a better place, but the knocking down of walls and noise could've gotten done during the summer and the quiet finishing touches should've been done during the past semester. When asked what is going to happen during finals since it will be 24-hour quiet hours, a staff member stated that "construction will begin at 5 am." How will that solve the noise problem and allow us students sleep before our exams? The Chipotle was a nice gesture, but we want our money back since we paid for a room to live in instead of a construction zone. The rest of the residents on campus pay the same amount for a peaceful arrangement while we have had a VERY unpleasant semester.
