Many people frequently travel between Saranac Lake, NY and Plattsburgh, NY and vice versa. Cellular phone service is non-existent between Vermontville, NY and the town of Saranac, NY. This not only poses a big inconvenience, but it also poses a public safety issue. In the event of an emergency such as an automobile accident or other medical matter, 911 calls cannot be placed, creating a potential life and death scenario. Many people travel this road to get to work on a daily basis. During the non-peak travel times (i.e., later in the evening), there are often periods of time where police patrols or other motorists would not be around to provide help in the event of an accident or other emergency need. Additionally, there are several small towns along this corridor. Residents are unable to receive cell phone service. It is our collective hope that the main cellular phone provider in this area, Verizon Wireless, add additional tower(s) in the above referenced area. We believe that by doing so would be beneficial two-fold: provide service for emergency-related calls and better service the residents living in the area. Verizon Wireless would potentially gain more customers as well.
