Dear Rose Lane Resident,

As you will be aware, residents’ parking has been a cause for concern on our road for a number of years. This situation has become even more of an issue recently due to the extension of Tesco, extended supermarket hours and the opening of a number of new businesses in the area. All of these factors combined make parking a day to day problem for residents wishing to park their vehicles close to their home. There are a number of factors to consider:

·         Rose Lane is primarily a residential area, but obviously we all accept we co-exist alongside a number of businesses. Although parking has always been problematic, as a result of the lack of off road driveways, it has only recently become a major issue due primarily to the factors given above. A number of businesses which have opened in recent times require parking spaces for staff throughout the day and also for customers who, given the nature of these businesses, often need to park for extended periods of time (2 or more hours.) This limits the spaces available for residents to park outside or near their own homes.

·         When residents are unable to park close to their homes (often having no choice but to park a considerable distance away/in neighbouring roads)this causes a number of difficulties, for example, when unloading heavy goods or shopping, when taking children/older people to and from their vehicles to their homes. This is not just an inconvenience but also a safety/security concern.

·         A number of private hire taxi firms use the area outside private residences to park whilst waiting for fares from Tesco. It is not unusual to find three or more taxi cabs along one ‘block’ of houses, preventing residents from finding a parking space.

·         When parking spaces outside homes are so limited it frequently means residents have to attempt risky parking manoeuvres, often during heavy peak traffic, in an attempt to fit their cars into awkward spaces. It is impossible to see if a space near to your home is free until you are almost alongside it, compounding this problem.

·         The sheer volume of traffic and bumper to bumper parking along Rose Lane means crossing the road is becoming extremely hazardous for pedestrians.

The issue of parking problems isn’t going to improve, if anything the situation will get worse. A number of residents have continually expressed concerns and the Council are aware of this. The issue has now been forwarded to the Council parking planning department for their consideration. There are a number of options residents hope they will consider, for example, residents’ parking permits, notices requesting considerate parking, letters to businesses requesting consideration is given to residents regarding parking etc. The more residents raising concerns about these issues, the more likely we will receive a positive result. We obviously support local small businesses but we want to ensure consideration is given to those who live here and who find parking/traffic a problem. We would urge you to telephone Liverpool Direct’s Parking Department on 233 3011 to register your concerns. Alternatively, you can ‘sign’ this on-line petition. This petition will be forwarded to the Council planning department.

Many thanks for your support.
