The RITA contest is the premiere contest for romantic fiction, however, the unveiling of the 2014 finalists has revealed serious flaws in how the contest is administered and judged. We the RWA Mystery/Suspense Chapter (better known as Kiss of Death) board as well as the undersigned chapter members and non-members request the RWA board to:

1. Change the scoring system to better reflect the varying amounts of romance within each romance genre.

2. Change the 90 percent rule for finalists and replace it with a rule that those entries with the top 10 percent of scores within their category will be finalists in that category.

3. Change the categories to better reflect the romance book industry. This includes reinstating short and long categories as well as the strong romantic elements category.

4. Return to a judging process that does not allow those who enter a category to judge books submitted in that category.
