For those that do not know, Paul Leahey has been fired from the Campus Security office. The official reason for his termination was "writing substandard incident reports". Paul's termination has led to some serious questioning of which campus security officers have been fired or chose to quit, and which ones have been hired. We are losing well-qualified, personable officers and retaining those with more militant-like qualities. The environment within the campus security office is making good people want to leave. There is a high turnover rate within the office which further distances the relationship between students and campus security officers. Students are beginning to see campus security officers as more of a threat than a resource. This is a major concern for Rollins and it must change. I, Blake Pierce, have already gathered many signatures at the Cornell Campus Center on Tuesday, April 17th, to show student support for a serious review of the management of the campus security department such that we are retaining well-qualified and personable officers, and that the climate of the department must shift away from its militant culture. If you did not sign your name on paper at the campus center, sign this petition to show your support for this movement AND to consider the rehiring of Paul T. Leahey at Rollins College.
