Name: Kathleen Macmahon on Aug 20, 2010Comments: I understand that parking was an issue with this planning application. so could one of the councillors who voted against this application please tell me where the car park for the Odeon is in Southend? Or why the Bowling at the Kursaal has so few dedicated parking spaces then? Come on Councillors, be consistent in your objections, if other entertainment venues in the area are approved with apparently no or little consideration for parking, then this is no reason to vote against Rollacity. Surely this application can only be a much needed boost to this area? You are supposed to represent the majority after all.Flag

We all loved it and it was a brilliant thing for the whole family to do. At the moment the district lacks in family venues.Flag

Name: Lindsey Hills on Aug 20, 2010Comments: I'm was really excited about the prospect of new skating rink in the Southend area. I'm co-founder of the Seaside Siren Roller Girls roller derby league. Roller derby is currently the fastest growing female sport in the UK and worldwide. It would be amazing to have this kind of facility on our doorstep. When we started the league it took us months to find a location that would allow us to practise and we had to make the long trip to Rollerworld in Colchester every Sunday. If RollaCity had been there we would have saved a lot of time and money. With the current initiatives by the government (national and local) to get people out there and get active I believe that this offers the perfect solution. In fact if the council don't believe that the proposed venue is ideal, then they should be tripping over themselves trying to help find a better one. Skating is an amazingly good workout for your whole body (cardiovascular as well as toning - especially your bum, thighs and upper arms - 2hrs of skating can burn up to 1000 calories) it works your core and it improves balance. Most importantly skating is accessible to the vast majority of people, young and old, and is something the whole family can enjoy together. The best part is it doesn’t even feel like exercise as it’s so much fun. Get the kids off their Playstations and X-Boxes and get them skating!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Aug 20, 2010Comments: A roller rink would be so good for the area, currently anyone who likes to skate has to travel to Colchester for the nearest rink, which is too far away (I love skating, and have been so excited about having a rink so much closer to home!). Also, for people to experience skating from fresh, find a new hobby & way to get fit - never a bad thing! Something for the youngsters to get into - also never a bad thing! C'mon - let the rink open its doors!Flag
