We the undersigned residents request that the speed limit on Rohallion Rd. within the City of Kawartha Lakes be reduced to 50KPH. The recent increase in traffic since the closure of the swing bridge on King st. in Bolsover has made drivers both commercial and private auto more familiar with this roadway. As with all traffic increase comes increased risk and speeding violations. It is not uncommon for vehicles to travel at speeds well in excess of the 80km limit for this roadway. To date, little to no visible speed enforcement has been performed by the OPP even with the substantially high increase in traffic flow. The recent surface work performed on this roadway has deteriorated rapidly, frost heaves and potholes are common throughout the length of this road. The deterioration of this roadway makes it unsafe for the current level of speed and this fact was admitted by a OPP officer. Cottagers, out of area traveler's and residents who fish or ride bicycle on this road are now subject to increased traffic at high speeds make this a dangerous combination for serious injury to driver , cyclist and pedestrian. The removal of the signage " Slow cottage area " just prior to Rockside rd. has now placed driver , cyclist , and pedestrian at even greater risk. This section of roadway has a blind hill which brings cars rapidly over the crest to a narrow single lane bridge which is often occupied by people who ignore the " no fishing from bridge " sign. Vehicles traveling in the opposite direction frequently speed through this area and often have to brake hard to avoid over running the STOP sign at Centennial Park rd. Last year an alleged drunk driver failed to make the stop and overshot both lanes of Centennial park road and landed in the field. This is a blind intersection for traffic coming north on Centennial park Rd. it was fortunate that no vehicles where traveling through that area at the time as this also is a 80km roadway and would easily have had resulted in serious injury. We believe that the above reasons are sufficient cause for reduced speed on this roadway and thus request the reduction in speed from 80km to 50 km. before serious injury occurs to anyone.
