I wish I could attend a hearing regarding my parking tickets because I had some broken down cars that I sold to the junk yard now I see I owe 1790.00 in parking tickets.Flag

Name: Joe Henderson on Apr 22, 2003State: ILCountry: USComments: My pet peeve, besides the regular parking tickets, are the City Stickers. I received my late father's car from my mother, and when I didn't get a new sticker inside of 30 days ("not knowing is not a defense") I not only had to pay $75 for a replacement sticker (and will have to get a new one again in June), I had to pay a late fee of $30, and a $60 parking ticket because I didn't have it!!! This is ridiculous!! I've had to work 2 jobs since losing my other job in April '02, the unemployment's run out, and they want $180 for a little piece of plastic I agree with wanting to bring back the payment plan, but I'd rather back a coalition to do away with altogether these heaped-on penalties. This has gone on too long, and I feel with the right effort we could challenge this. It began here in Chicago with Ritchie Daley. I suspect they write in projected revenue from parking tickets into the budget, which if proved could possibly be unconstitutional. Anyone out there got any ideas Thank you for this petition and forum, I feel like I've let off a little steam, but I'm still really mad!Flag

Spelling and grammar does matter when you want people to take you seriously. Being poor is no excuse for being ignorant.Flag

My kids ran up so many tickets that the state suspended my driving license and I owed the city a large amount of money. I had to take a personal loan out, at a high interest rate, to pay the city. Their is no excuse for the city not having a payment plan.Flag

Name: J Blue on Aug 12, 2003State: ILCountry: USComments: I'm sure I missed this petition about Daley and parking tickets. I generally vote for Daley, but this year I have to think long and hard - he is not an honest man to me anymore - I doubt him - (Meigs)and I hate that. I am ashamed of the city with the stories I hear about the cost of parking tickets and taking people's cars away, etc. Its disgusting and greedy. There are other ways to get money out of people here to cover the budget. I'm still appalled that I have a $50 ticket for a METER that was out of quarters downtown. (Not to mention that the meters didn't even have an end time posted - It had been scratched out.) Anyway - the city should be ashamed of itself. What DO the tourists think I DO try to follow all rules of parking - all signs, etc. and STILL manage to get tickets - which I DO protest. What's up with that JBFlag

I ma now told that I have no other option but to pay these (almost $2,100). When someone forcibly takes money from you and you have no other option - that's called "robbery".Flag

I believe the police are being inbriefed to aggressively ticket the poor neighborhoods, since they are the easiest to target. In time we can use political channels to change the way Chicago Police conducts business. DavidFlag

I live near O'hare and work near Wrigley Field. I go to school at Wright and it is so hard for me to make ends meet. If I could make payments to get my license back, it would help me so much in my quest to succed and do something with my life. Brad WendelFlag

That is; suspending a drivers license and adminitsering parking fines. That's two administrative actions for one offense. I believe that's not legal in this country.Flag

Name: Dorothy Bouyer on Dec 2, 2003State: ILCountry: USComments: Yes, I beleive that there should be something that should be worked out for people such as myself that are living on a fixed income. My license have been suspended for a very long time for unpaid parking tickets. But I simply cannot afford to come up with the total amount that I owe. I really would like to have my driving priviledges back, cause I have arthritis in my legs, heart problems bronchical asthma, and high blood pressure; I also have a son that has a mental disorder and he and I require a lot of doctors visits monthly.Flag

Where as for those who can't afford to make the full payment of a parking ticket, to make payments or pay with what they can. I've been in this situation before and struggled to pay the fees in full. On top of the ridiculous late fee that's added on it's unfair!Flag

Name: Delmarie Cobb on Jan 21, 2004State: ILCountry: USComments: In 1992 my car was booted. Unfortunately, I had just started a business and couldn't afford to get it right away. Of course, the City kept tacking on fees. Thirty-five days later, I had to money to get my car. When I called to find out how much I owed, I also asked what lot it was being stored and if I could have the telephone number. When I called the lot, I was told that my car had been crushed five days earlier. It was a 1983 Nissan Maxima--in good condition--brand new tires, and new car battery. I called back to the Dept. of Revenue to asked if I still had to pay for my car since it had been crushed. I was told yes. As you stated, my car is integral to my living. Without a car, I was limited as to what I could do. Two years ago, I finally paid the City. I didn't want to, however. I think sufficient notice should be given to the owner before a car is crushed or sold. No where does it say if you can't get your car within 30 days, the City will crush or sell it. I went on television and radio to tell my story. Several people contacted me with similar stories.Flag
