Anonymous | As a native Houstonian, this deeply saddens me. One by one, the beautiful landmark buildings of my city are being razed in the name of profit and greed. I challenge all Houstonians to fight for historic preservation before our city loses its charm and funkiness.

Aristides Trifilio Jr | Please preserve these buildings! Economic development can occur around these very important landmarks and icons of our history.
Anonymous | Isn't there a way to preserve this landmark theater and still make a decent profit? Couldn't that be worked out by the owners? Perhaps a boutique bookshop specializing in artbooks etc---that keeps the architectural integrity and beauty intact?
Kathryn Cole | I have lived in the River Oaks/Montrose area for so many years. These treasured buildings define the uniqueness of our neighborhood and Houston itself. Please find a way to keep our landmarks intact!

Laura McAllan | Houston needs to preserve its historic landmarks. People already just think it is full of condos and highrises. We must preserve the sense of history and roots in Houston.

Lilly Hastings | I am doing research for a paper in school on "endangered places" throughout the world. I happened to hit different articles on Texas, and I was mortified. I am a lover of the past. I feel the more we can preserve, the more we can hold on to the simplicity, and purity of what our forefathers wanted for us-a good life, love, equality, honest living, and an appreciation for all we are given. I may be 32, but I can certainly see the disregard and indifference that has spread throughout our world, from the youth we raise, to the soulless developers who destroy beauty from days gone past. Ms. Farb, your friend was indeed correct. Greed does make history disappear. But hopefully our desire to preserve what is indeed precious will not go unheard any longer. My best to you! Lilly Hastings

Liza Evans | How could you be so shortsighted? There are very few buildings that define the city of Houston. Do you want create an America that looks identical from coast to coast? We must treasure the history we still have. Shopping at one more chain store is just that. Please have some sensitivity and humanity!

Anonymous | Signature 26,201 says it all. This is a petition to save a historic landmark and this idiot is advertising his/her/its business. This is a metaphor for the attitude toward these kinds of initiatives in Houston and all of Texas. It's all about business, business, business, money, money, money in Texas! Money and business concerns trump everything in Houston and Texas. I have no faith these landmarks or any other will be saved. If you want to save these kinds of things then study the way the Los Angeles Conservancy has been successful and get a few rich Jews behind this because that's the only way it will work. That's not an antisemitic statement it's just the truth because they're the only ones that know how to do it and where to put the pressure on for results.
