| 156 | simone swan | our attachment to landmarks is
a colorful part of the fabric of our city. to build a venal highrise only degrades and vulgarizes the houston we love. |

Nick | Just what we need- another horribly designed residential high rise and an over priced bookstore. Keep Houston Historic!

Karen Amdur Fishel | How sad to see the greed of developers ruining what little of Houston is architecturally unique and beautiful. Can you find some way to preserve something that is special in Houston? You are bright businessmen...there must be a way.

Shelia Kennedy | No more demolition, please! Houston has already lost too many of its "old" buildings.

Seán Murphy | Before we tare down this Houston gem, I'd like to see a truly higher and better use... not an EIFS covered B&N. Give us something of equal or better community value.
David Euscher | a high rise of any sort would be inappropriate for this location in terms of the scale adjacent to the River Oaks neighborhood, and for the traffic problems that would be made even worse than they are today. The River Oaks Shopping center is a gateway between the residential avenues of River Oaks and the city blocks of downtown Hosuton. The curved retail wings make the intersection of Shepard and West Gray a landmark in itself, and Houston's city scape would be diminished without it. The River Oaks theater is one of the few intimate theaters in town, that is regularly busy with moviegoers and often shows films that other megaplexes won't show. Losing this site would mean losing an important cultural outlet, as well as a landmark of art deco design. The Alabama theater, now a Bookstop, is also one of the unique shopping experiences in town, and a pleasure to shop in, having the feel of an independent bookshop, without the anonymous "Anywhere USA" character of a Barnes & Noble. B&N would be well served to keep this one unique retail experience in their portfolio. My morning commute wouldn't be the same without driving down that particular stretch of Shepard. Whe I returned to Houston, after several years of living away, these places were welcome sights, making me feel at home once again. These places are viable retail locations and some of the last few places on Houston of historic interest from their time. Please Do NOT demolish the River Oaks Shopping Center, River Oaks Theater, or the Alabama theater, they are historically, culturally, and commercially valuable, and deserve to be preserved.

Adolfo Anthony Celis | This is a Houston landmark for goodness sakes! We can't distroy this! Tourism and happy new residents are hard to keep increasing if we continue to remove these parts that make up Houston culture.
eb allen | Please save one last bit of coolness. Build the B&N somewhere else - like just buy some land on Waugh between Allen Parkway and West Gray. Don't tear down a gem.

Anonymous | I urge your consideration to preserve the River Oaks Shopping Center. Does Houston really need another generic strip center with the usual suspects (Barnes and Noble, etc)?

Anonymous | the river oaks theatre is one of the coolest buildings in this town. i've never been one for historic preservation, but i love that center.
Anonymous | Please DON'T destroy one of the best parts of Houston. That would be too terribly sad. Noone wants all the new stuff there, NOONE!
