We, the undersigned, urge the Mayor and Council of Point Pleasant to include active recreation in the plan and design Riverfront Park; The citizens of Point Pleasant Borough have always supported the development of recreational facilities to meet the needs of the children as well as adults. The Borough is faced with the development of one of the last large parcels of land that would be sufficient to lessen the burden of our parks and recreational facilities. There has been a proposal to develop Riverfront Park as a PASSIVE use park. The Township Code does not define the term passive, however, it has become public knowledge that THE BOROUGH IS NOT GOING TO INCLUDE ANY BALLFIELDS OR OTHER ACTIVE USE FOR OUR CHILDREN. In these times of video games and television, it is important to re-enforce the importance of outdoor activity and recreation. It is also extremely important to teach our children about the benefits of organized sports, teamwork and competitive play. More importantly, our children need the use of Parks in an unorganized manner where they can play in games without the restrictions of rules and control and enjoy playing just for the fun of it. We are respectfully requesting that the Mayor and Council support the development of a park with active uses to include ballfields, soccer fields and other such activities.
