Many of them have come to Amsterdam only to visit the library and work in its premises. We just cannot afford to lose it, it would be a horrendous crime against culture and a loss to be regretted forever.Flag

Name: Rina Dekker on Nov 24, 2010Comments: If the BPH were to be closed and library to be sold, all the research, valuable works and other things collected over the years will be scattered all over the world and there is a high risk of losing all of it! As an academic, I say this is unexceptable and indeed, all damage done will be irreversible!! We need to stop this!Flag

Name: Milou Van Dueren Den Hollander on Nov 24, 2010Comments: As a student of Western Esotericism, the Ritman library is of utmost importance to me, as well as to all scholars, researchers or others interested in the field of science, philosophy and hermetic currents. The sale of (a part of) the Ritman collection would cause serious problems in the academic field. Amsterdam holds a unique and valuable position, as the provider of the worlds best library specialized in hermetic philosophy. The interest in this field is growing rapidly, as well as the status of Amsterdam as an important researchcentre. We cannot allow this priceless collection to be sold!Flag

Name: Matthew James Twigg on Nov 24, 2010Comments: The BPH is the single most beautiful library I've ever been in. It's wealth of scholarly literature on Hermetic philosophy and related historical movements is unparalleled in my experience. It would truly be a tragedy if the scholarly community was to lose such a resource, and if the city of Amsterdam was to lose such a landmark institution. Don't let the BPH die!Flag

It is unique in the world, it has been built with as unique a spiritual drive and passion and inspires visitors, readers, scholars from all over the world. Especially in these times, when in Europe and in the Netherlands, cultural values are endangered and populism feeds fear and intolerance, we need the strength, confidence and trust in mankind that this library has always made available to all.Flag

I recieved very good help from them when I wrote my master's thesis on Johannes Reuchlin and would like to thank them for the inspiration I got when I visited for their Reuchlin exhibition in 2005.Flag
