Declaration to support the actions and interests of the writers of ‘Lettre pour Histoire’
We, human rights activists and the lawyers , signatories of this declaration, denounce the violation of human rights of the Moroccan lawyers, authors of ‘Lettre pour Histoire’. These violations consist of five rulings made on the 23rd February 2007, as a result of the Judgment of the Chamber of Consultation of the Tribunal (second degree) of Tetouan.
The consequences of these rulings is the permanent expulsion of three lawyers, Kanjaa Abdelatif, ELhabib Hadji, KHalid Bourhail and 2 years suspension from legal practice for two others ,Mohamed Ajaoub et Charaf Chekkara . This violation of Human Rights is due to the lawyer’s honesty and integrity and their wish to inform the public of the corruption and wrong doings within the Moroccan legal system.
We wish to enlist the international public’s support on the following:
1. We condemn the sanctions taken, which are a blatant violation of human rights. They violate the freedom of thought and expression and contradict the principles of Human Rights. Such sanctions directly violate the law as fully outlined by the state of Morocco.
2. We unconditionally support the lawyers whose freedom of expression has been violated.
3. We demand that the Moroccan government’s judicial system to immediately reverse this obvious violation of human rights and reinstate the lawyers.
4. We demand that the Moroccan state protect and advocate for human rights, and support those who denounce the acts of injustice; particularly in view of the drive to eradicate corruption and social injustice through the International Convention for the Fight Against Corruption.
5. We command the actions taken by those who support the victims of these violations.
6. We declare the creation of an international committee, which fight against violations of Human Rights and to take all measures necessary to respect the basic human rights for these lawyers who are being victimized for exercising their freedom of expression and freedom of information.
