Ripley skate park is in constant use by skaters, BMX riders, rollerbladers, and those silly scooter kids. Ripley skate park is a metal construction, not our first choice in skate park material of course, but we all appreciate what we have. As a result of it being made of steel, maintenance work needs to be carried out regularly, but recently it seems that the council has turned a blind eye to it. Our skate park continues to be used and enjoyed by all, but at our own risk.. The ramp surfaces should be painted with grip paint at least once a year. This hasn't been done properly for well over 2 years and the skate park is becoming one big chunk of slippery riskiness. If health and safety officials saw some of the tricks we perform on such an unsafe skate park, it would be ripped down immediately. Also, there are other areas of the park that pose a threat, such as the battered copings and rails which desperately need replacing, as the park is almost ten years old and nothing has ever been replaced, even though it's used every day. The safety barriers at the tops of the larger ramps are coming loose and need fixing or replacing. It is AVBC's responsibility to maintain recreational grounds, and keep them safe, especially where young people and children are playing. Word on the street is, the park will soon be pulled down, to make way for a new by-pass. So shouldn't the skate park get a little respect and TLC in it's last days? - This petition is to get Amber Valley Borough Council to inject funds into the maintenance of our skate park, to paint the SURFACES of the ramps, NOT JUST THE SIDES, and to replace the rail in the middle of the drive-way.
