Situated in what was always a tidal basin alongside the River Brent, giving the closest possible waterside access to what became BrentfordÂ’s market place, RidgewaysÂ’ boatyard is threatened with closure under proposals to redevelop the area south of BrentfordÂ’s High Street.
It is increasingly rare to find such a site still continuing its historical role after so many centuries of service to both the local community, and via the connected canal system, to the rest of the country. As an inter-tidal habitat it is also a haven for local wildlife, that co-exists happily with the moored boats and repair activity.
The Council are now reviewing preferred options for future development, inviting public consultation and comment up until 7th March. We are appealing to all waterways users, history buffs, wildlife and environment enthusiasts, and local residents proud of their heritage.
If you value the retention of such heritage, and consider its continued existence as preferable to yet another restaurant and supermarket, please sign the petition below. Comments are invaluable!

It\'s just a call for voluntary donations to the site. I get the same query as to whether I\'d like to contribute when logging on as sponsor, and it doesn\'t actually work anyway!)
