This past year, our Oakland, California, Ridgemont neighborhood (Campus Drive between Redwood Road and Keller Avenue) has experienced a rise in thefts, burglaries and home invasion crimes.  Most recently, a sixteen-year-old resident was held at gunpoint during a home invasion incident.  As a result, we have formed a community watch group and are actively working together to reduce this increased crime in Ridgemont.  That said, it is our duty as residents of our Oakland community to communicate to our leaders that we need the assistance of the Police to help protect us from these crimes and to prevent worst crimes.

We believe the only way this can occur is for us to work together with our local Oakland Police department, as well as the Alameda County Sheriff Department and California Highway Patrol, therefore, we are respectfully requesting additional Police patrols through our neighborhood at random hours, both day and night.

We have the right to feel safe and be safe in our own homes. At this time the Oakland Police Department is seriously understaffed and does not have the resources to serve, protect and prevent the crimes that we have endured already and may occur in the future. We are asking that all POLICING agencies within our community provide us with assistance by presenting themselves in our neighborhood on a more regular basis.  As our neighborhood bridges both Highway 580 and Highway 13, we believe our request will not be a hindrance to any other policing activities but will make a huge impact.
