Current RI law makes all fire and police pensions "unattachable" in any civil court of law. This passage of this legislation will make an exception for anyone convicted of murder, such as the killer, Nicholas Gianquitti, who murdered Lt. James Pagano. Gianquitti is a former 6-MONTH active duty Providence Police Officer who took a TAX-FREE disability pension because he "didn't like a desk job". His pension continues to grow every year and he continues to collect it while serving 20 years, plus life in prison. Lt Pagano was a 17-YEAR dedicated and professional firefighter whose TAXABLE pension is significantly less than Gianquitti's because he hadn't served 20 active years prior to being murdered. Lt Pagano's pension will be further reduced when each of his two children reach age 18. The pagano family will gratefully appreciate your signing this petition so that a judge can consider the murderer's pension in a civil court of law. We believe the victim's family should have civil recourse for their loss of income and pain and suffering.
