We Support the Reopening of the Rams Hill Public Golf Course in Borrego.

The Rams Hill Public Golf Course request the Borrego Water District's (BWD) support in finding a cost effective water source so that it can reopen and serve the entire Borrego Springs community.The course has been closed for 2 years because the previous Rams Hill owner sold the course's well to the BWD in 2009.  Based on historic usage and current water rates, the golf course, which was private, would have to pay $1 million annually to the BWD.  The other Borrego courses own their own wells and consequently enjoy free water from the Borrego aquifer.Since no golf course can afford these rates, a San Diego developer, Bill Berkley, has offered to buy a large palm tree farm, fallow it, and give the farm's well to the BWD after paying more than $250,000 to connect it to the BWD's pipelines.  This would reduce the aquifer overdraft by over 500 acre feet per year (AFY).  Berkley will also reduce the golf course's historic water usage by an additional 500 AFY by making...
