We demand that the City of Rhome, Texas reinstate the paid First Responder position. This position could be the difference between life and death of not only the residents within the city limits, but also those that are in the outlying county area known as the ETJ (Extended Territorial Jurisdiction) with a Rhome address. The need for this position guarantees that a trained qualified EMS will be at the fire station during the hours of 8am to 5pm to respond to medical emergencies, such as automobile accidents, injuries from fires, and various other medical emergencies which include but not limited to accidents that may occur at the schools and local businesses during the day. The benefits to the citizens are endless; quicker response time, assessment and immediate attention and stabilization to the injured, gathering of vital information to be radioed to the paramedics prior to their arrival to the scene that expedites possible life saving treatment. It is inconceivable, that the current City Council would terminate this position after the budget was approved by the previous Council AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE TAX PAYING RESIDENTS OR BUSINESSES.
