Save the Royal Hawaiian Band!

One of our last Hawaiian living legacies is in jeopardy, and we need your help!  Please support us in letting the city council know that eliminating the band from its budget is NOT an option for all the reasons below and many more!

·         Founded in 1836 by King Kamehameha III, it survives as the only band in the United States with a royal legacy, and stands as the nation’s second oldest band.

·         Preserves, protects, and promotes Hawaiian culture, history, dance, music, and our identity.

·         Provides unique performance opportunities for visiting and local Hawaiian singers, hula dancers, and hula hālau.

·         Inspires keiki and young musicians throughout Hawai‘i via special events, educational concerts, and workshops in our schools.

·         Enriches the quality of life for our kupuna through performances at elder care homes and hospitals.

·         Averages 320 performances each year.

·         Reaches tens of thousands of residents and visitors annually through regular performances at Iolani Palace, Kapiolani Park, shopping malls, parades, patriotic events, and Hawaiian ceremonies.

Once gone, this institution could well be gone forever!  If you agree that the Royal Hawaiian Band is a living treasure that must be saved for all future generations, please sign the attached petition!
