PETITION SUMMARY: Rezoning of West Central St. between Beaver St. and Union St. to allow combination of residential and commercial use.

PETITION DESCRIPTION:  This rezone would allow the current zoning of Single Family IV be modified to allow both residential and commercial/professional office use. This section of West Central St. / route 140 is located between a Commercial II zone from the Beaver St. intersection to the west to a Commercial I zone to Emmons St./West St. intersection to the east. There is also a 1 block section of Industrial zoning at Fisher St. within this area. There are already non-residential businesses within this section of West Central St. / route 140 including professional office, commercial office, retail business, and a new medical/dental business now being constructed.

ACTION PETITIONED FOR: We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens and Franklin, MA property and business owners who urge the Franklin Town Council to act now to rezone the area on route 140 from Beaver St. to Union St./Emmons St./West St. to allow a mix of residential and commercial/professional office use. This rezoning would allow the current property owners of the above section of W. Central St. to retain current residential use, plus add the ability for commercial/professional office use at the owner’s discretion. A change of use would not be required on behalf of the owner (i.e. any resident could continue to use the property for residential purposes only).
