Anonymousno one can afford to live here anymore!!! why is it that other states can have taxes in the hundreds of dollars and ours are well into the thousands - there's something wrong with that!!
AnonymousI'm so tired of 60/68 its draining the life blood from most of the average small towns in the state!

AnonymousThere are 4 words are pathetic legislators need TO ADHERE TO CUT SPENDING---LOWER TAXES. Its obvious that they can't, and won't do the job they were sent there to do. We the taxpayers can go to the polls at election time and vote the pathetic legislators out of office

AnonymousThe latest tax study performed by the legistature in which property taxes were excluded from the calculation was a sorry waste of our money and time. Much like a lot of what our state supports. Why do the working people continually have to fund the state's folly?
George Prime
Daniel C. ClarkThe high tax rate in Vermont is riidiculous and unnecessary.
Lynn M. ClarkThe high tax rate shows poor management by the Vermont politicians. It is unfair to expect the peoples of this state to support the lack of business judgement which in return is causing financial hardship to the homeowner.

Reed N BoutonMy main cocern during the last election was tax relief and I thought I voted accordingly. Nothing has happened. Instead one of the first items was a resolution to impeach Bush and shortly thereafter a lot of noise about providing day care assistance, adding more tax burden. No wonder we are the highest taxed state in the union.
Cat FraserI find it sad that it has come to this. It is definately time for another "teaparty"

Robert & Dina Sprayregen10% of my GROSS INCOME goes to property tax. It is broken and wrong. Scary situation for State
John Bakerit is getting to the point that working vermonters cannot afford to live here any more.i am seeing more and more vermonters leaving the state to move south.vermont is in trouble.
Wentworth Comes JrHow do we mobilize people into action on this issue? If we would vote the legislators out who will not do anything to repeal this tax that discriminates against property owners then they would get the message.
giles & carol boissonneaultWe can only hope and pray this effort will wake up our legislators as spending on the state level is beyond the control of local communities.

Glenn W. ThompsonVermont's number one problem is affordability. The state is no longer competitive to most of the other states. Bottom line, Vermont has become unaffordable for the average Vermonter. Here is why! Before I dwell on the tax issue, it must be pointed out ...everyday expenses such as the high costs of utilities, the costs of gas and to heat one's home has also skyrocked out of control. Add that to overall taxes in Vermont and it should be apparent to everyone except Socialists and Progressives....."Houston, we have a problem". As for taxes, the best source to compare tax rates to all 50 states is the Tax foundation. This is an overview of what I found on the site. Vermont has the highest state and local tax burden in the country. Vermont's business tax climate ranks 44th. How does the state attract business with such a poor ranking? Vermont's Individual Income Tax System offers a great incentive for the rich to move elsewhere. Compare the income tax brackets to other states. Vermont's corporate tax structure is among the priciest in the nation. Again...why would any business and corporation want to locate here? Vermont's Sales Tax Rate Exceeds National Median. Vermont Property Taxes rank #8 and the state is working damn hard to be #1. My solution is simple, upon retirement in under 3 yrs. Move out of here!

AnonymousWe revolted from the British Empire over a tax that amounted to one half of one percent of income. Now the peoples republic of vermont has decided that 5% (for us less well off folks) state property tax and 8.5% income tax along with a 6% purchase and use and 10% room and meals and countless unseen taxes are reasonable. Perhaps if all legislators and other elected folks were forced to live for 5 years on a $45,000 a year income for a family of 4 , in a house they bought 15 years ago for 100,000 that now appraises for $300,000 they would realize that taxing us out of house and home is a very real potential result.

Mark J. RocheleauTax and spend liberals must be held accountable for the mis-management of public funds. HANG THEM ALL!
David D. DemarAbiding by the constitution is NOT a strong point of left wing politicians. They have to keep voters dependent upon them in order to get re-elected and retain control. The way they do that is to drive away our independence by driving our means of support out of state... in other words, our jobs, our LIVELIHOOD. Once that has been taken away, we need to depend on THEM for our daily bread. That is how they force us from a democratic republic into socialism. Not for OUR good, but for THEIRS.
Marie BartlettThis is a must! I strongly support all efforts of Revolt and Repeal! My 26 year old son, his friends and a lot of my friends children have moved out of this state for better paying jobs and more opportunities. This state will not attract new businesses that can offer high paying jobs until they decrease the tax burden on businesses and on personal property taxes.
penelope harrisTaxes....can't live with them, can't live without them. But we CAN make them fair and equitable.
John BradyThis is a horrible and extremely disruptive tax as it applies to the foundation of the ski industry in Vermont.
David PrehodaThe Vermont Legislature is completely out of touch with the majority of Vermont property owners. I say, "Vote the bums out of office this coming November!!!"
Kathryn PrehodaIt is about time someone has addressed this issue head-on. I wish all of Vermont property owners would rise up this coming November and expunge the Vermont Legislature of the entire crop!

David A.McCulloughI would like to be on board. VT. is way out of control and people are beginning to sink into debt over these insane taxes- property tax being the big one! We need some accountability and some drastic reductions- no more "eco-talk" on global warming. We need to cut the state beauracracy and stop all the give-away programs that have dominated vermont policy for many years now. Enough.
Carmella CyrTaxes increases have caused the mortgage company's to step in 'without' our consent to pay our taxes and increase our mortgage payments with no real notice. They are now paying our taxes 'before' we even get a chance to make payment arrangements. My taxes increased from $2300 to over $4000 - I was making my tax payments monthly with no problems but because of the laws changing to be 'not citizen friendly' everyone suddenly has a problem with payment plans especially the mortgage co's - mine stepped in, paid town up and my mortgage increased from 968 a month to $1541. a month. everyone expects us to sink - I am working and exhausting all resources in every possible direction and I am surviving this - I am completley appalled at our system - no wage increases, small company's are suffering and we are in a mess! No one seems to listen to us the tax payers - we are smart enough to collect from but not smart enough to be listened to - we have the answers - hopefully we are heard!
Steven GilmanProperty Taxes are high enough so in 2-4 years , my wife and will have to move to a state that alows us to live. Instead of just exist.
Lella RicciutiSchool taxes are unportionally exagerated...Taxes should be amended fairly for all home owners. What was once a dream home is now turning into a Nightmare.
AnonymousThe school taxes are starting to get blown out of proportion. Something need to be made. It getting ridicoulus.
José Luis Isabalno one can afford to live here anymore!!!! We're behind you 100%.
Bradford W. EdwardsProperty Taxes are way too high and regressive. Instead of seeing older residents forced from their farms due to rising taxes, switch the burden to State Income Tax.
