Anonymous | We pay double property taxes on our vacation home. We feel this is very unfair, and probably illegal. Is anything being done about this?
Anonymous | The state of Vermont should look into how the state of Michigan handled their school taxes.
Rick Jean |
David Venter |
Debra Bergeron | We would never get what they are appraising our homes for. My Mom is on a fixed income and I don't know they expect her to pay a mortgage, utility bills, this ridiculous tax increase (they were too high before the appraisal!!) and food, medicine, etc.
Romni Palmer | The jump in my taxes was significant. The city appraised my house for way more than the certified appraiser appraised it for. I can't sell my house for what the city says it is worth. If they wanted to raise the taxes they should have put it on a ballot rather that this underhanded tactic.
Susan Bergeron | My mom is retired and on a fixed income and her house appraisal just doubled and her taxes went up an additional $200. How is she supposed to pay that...be able to keep her home that she worked all her life for..my dad passed away a couple years back and it is up to her to pay everything and she is financially drained.
Laurie Desso | I am single, and trying to pay for a mortgage, and the taxes for the house keep going up and up!!! It makes it very hard to pay for everything, no wonder people are selling their homes, they can't afford them! Older people in South Burlington, etc....... are finding it extremely difficult to even pay the taxes, even if their house doesn't have a mortgage.......... Some of them have to choose between eating, and paying their taxes in order to have a roof over their head, and that is pathetic....... I don't have any children, and my parents have no children left in the house, yet we all must pay these enormous taxes!! It isn't right.............
dean g powers , jr. | taxes are outragious !!!!!!!.....it`s impossible for working people to own property in vermont.....i guess that`s what the socialists (democrats) want !!!!!!
brenda j powers | taxes are TOO HIGH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
roger d stoddard |
Jim Burbo |
Richard Campbell | Last election cycle, the main issue that was supposed to be addressed as a priority was property tax reform and making Vermont more affordable. Instead we get Global Warming, ending the war in Iraq and impeaching the President. We need tax reform now!
deanna garcia | at some point this will be a state only for the extremey rich. my sister in NV pays less than $500 a year for her 10 year- old 3 bedroom home (new when she bought) HELP
Anonymous | This god damn state should be proud of itself, for one forcing the elderly who have lived and worked their entire life out of here,as they live on a meager social security checks, I questioned my represenative on this as my mom and dad live here, and her comment was "well they get a rebate, don't they"? I said yes, but only 244.00, and after that I said my parents land was handed down from the family and being left for the children, her comment was "well then maybe they should sell some land", totally uncalled for comment from someone who WE are giving a paycheck to!! , The rebates, thats another joke, when all of these people who you know damn well are not hurting for money get back thousands in rebates, it in not fair to anyone, especially the elderly. I know a "few" folks who do make good money (under the table) and live in very nice homes (400,000+)so they show little income and get back alot, it is people like that who the state should put under fire, another example of people screwing the system!
Ruth Chickering | I own a camp on Averill Lake. I used to be able to afford the camp and maintain it for my family, but with the increased Taxes, I can not.
Carol Perry | I have had my mother and my 90 year old Mothe-n-law and my husband who has alzheimers sharing my home. I had them all sign the mortgage so we could share expences without having to claim any income from rent. Now I find that I have to put my mother-n-law in an assisted care home. I'm not sure that we can afford to keep our home now. The added expence of the high taxes increases our expences.
Jeff Dufresne |
Seward Harvey | I have a camp in the NEK (Averill) where we have nothing to show for our taxes, and after many years of hard manual labor, getting it where we like it, we are forced to sell it because of way to high taxes. I believe it is time to repeal Act 60/68 now.
Anonymous | I'm actually thinking about leaving because of this state because we can't afford the crazy taxes. People with kids should help with the school taxes regardless of whether they are in an apartment, or own their own home. crazy!
Anonymous | As a school teacher I am greatly in support of education, but as a second home owner in Vt I feel absolutely taken advantage of.
Eric Brinkerhoff | We need to lower property taxes. What can I do to help?
MARILYN GREENBERG | I am in the worst position. Not a resident, but a homeowner. Talk about taxation without representation ! I am appalled by the outrageous taxes that we pay and we do not use any resources in Vermont associated with education!!!
Neil Katzman | Second home owners have options which may not include Vermont in the future!!
James E. Andreotta |
peterricciardi | I am not a permanent resident of Vt. but I am disgusted by the Vt State legislators taking advantage of so called "rich towns". Something has to be done or a lot of us will be selling.
Anonymous | As a second home owner, I do not use a lot of the services that I am taxed at a higher rate than those who use them. I do not mind paying a fair share of taxes but not to penalize me since I have no vote. At this rate, I will have to sell my home and stop coming to Vermont which I have enjoyed for over twenty years.
pam rachlin | what can second homeowners do?
Nathan West | Mailing address is: P.O. Box 624 Proctor, VT 05765
RAY & LAURETTE LACHANCE | OVER 3000.00 FOR A CAMP (NOT A HOME ) I AM 80 YEARS OLD AND ON A DEPLETINNG SAVINGS I SIMPLY CANNOT AFFORD SUCH OUTRAGEOUS TAXES !
Alvin A. Simard | Stop the madness now. Get rid of Act 60. Freeze spending. 15% across the board budget cuts immediatly. Return spending controls to local school boards. No new programs. Fire the entire State legislature and/or freeze their pay until the people they work for get REAL tax relief. Stop the madness.
James F. Gatti | Unless the state changes it taxing and spending policies, it will find itself stagnating, unable to create competitive employment opportunities for the its citizens and their children.

Ken Davis | Good to see this petition out.The way taxes are assesed for this socialist republic state is quite pathetic. When are the people going to be responsibe for themselves and quite looking for handout from the governments. Good to see some are finally waking up , It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

Bonita Kosak |
Anonymous | our low income property owners can not afford this
Bela Prokai | Outrageous taxes for non-residents. I am considering other options and VT is not it.
Robert A. Stearns |
Phillip Kiefer |
A |
Aileen Stone |
Howard Kimball | Something needs to be done soon!
Anonymous | What was wrong with the way, we use to pay our taxes? Where in the blank did the leg get this idea, of taxing us? Why wasn't this Act 60 voted down by everyones reps? How did the leg, sneak this one by the people of Vermont? Let's have a big tea party on the State house lawn!!!!!
Marjorie Day | The role of government is to protect life, liberty and property as clearly stated in both the U.S. and Vermont Constitution. Have any of our Lawmakers even read the Constitution? What we have is a pack of Socialists running our government who have never met a program that they didn't like! Is it any wonder that we are taxed to death?!! Vermont is a wonderful place to have grown up in and I do not want to be forced to move! Straighten this mess out NOW!!!
