As of August 28, 2014 there was a new law implemented for the eviction process in the city of St. Louis. One that rewards the tenant for bad behavior, such as not paying rent, destroying or damaging property and sometimes just basically squatting on the property with no intent to do the right thing. There are many instances where the original tenant has left the property but left her friends or whomever there to live out the new laws timetable.

The previous law stated that after you had gone to court and won your case, the tenant would have ten (10) days from that court date to leave the property, but that’s not the case now. The new law states that the tenant now has forty (40) days in which to vacate the property. This law is unacceptable to a person who makes a living in this manner. There is no way that a person can survive giving a nonpaying tenant free rent for that period of time on top of the time that it takes to get to court in the first place.

This communication is for landlords who are interested in getting this law reversed back to pre-August decision. Hopefully this effort will gain traction and we can garner anywhere from three to five thousand signatures to make this a reality.
