In 1859 a team headed by Sir Charles Newton removed the magnificent Knidos Lion from Turkey and brought it to the British Museum where it is now on show. Recently I met Sibel who runs the cafe at the ancient site of Knidos near Datca, Turkey. She is passionate about seeking the return of the Lion statue to its original place. Turkish people now realise it's importance. Please sign this petition to help Sibel realise her dream.
I am currently organizing the documentation required to submit a formal request for the return of the statue to the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. My correspondence with representatives at the British Museum remains ongoing and I will update this feed as soon as they provide a substantive response.

It belongs in Turkey not a cold museum in London. Bring it home to Knidos where people can actually see it in its real setting.

Yes! Give it back to Datca. It would mean so much for us.

Ridiculous that this is still sitting in the UK. Time to give back what was taken so long ago.
