In 1859 a team headed by Sir Charles Newton removed the magnificent Knidos Lion from Turkey and brought it to the British Museum where it is now on show. Recently I met Sibel who runs the cafe at the ancient site of Knidos near Datca, Turkey. She is passionate about seeking the return of the Lion statue to its original place. Turkish people now realise it's importance. Please sign this petition to help Sibel realise her dream.

Marc Tiltman, United Kingdom2 years ago Comments: When I first saw the Lion of Knidos in 1991, it was just laying loose on the bare floor. Now it faces a corner on a plinth overlooking a small public eating area. A far cry from it's original beautiful location. Badly damaged during it's transit here in the 1850s, it's time now we showed Turkey a bit more respect for their heritage, and returned their statue. Hopefully they are still in possession of the parts broken off so they can be replaced.
