Late in the week of July 21, 2014, the iconic White Horse silhouette structure- which has towered over White Horse Pike in Lawnside NJ for decades - was taken down.

An iconic statue of a white horse, that for decades occupied a patch of sky over Lawnside, now is surrounded by an air of mystery.

The horse, removed from its high-rise perch due to safety concerns Thursday, is being stabled indefinitely by a Philadelphia firm.

"Right now it's going into storage until they decide what they want to do with it," said Bob Thackray, owner of Thackray Crane Rental. His company used two cranes to remove the statue from atop a tower at Historic Lawnside Village, a shopping center on the White Horse Pike.

Thackray said he does not know the plans of Vornado Realty Trust, the New York-based firm that owns the shopping center. "They'll have to tell us what to do," he said.
