I was at the NIT championship game. I was hoarse from yelling so much, stayed in a NYC bar till closing, had to drive home, change and come back into NYC for a job interview. During the interview they kept asking me why I was so hoarse. Got the job too. One of my best memories of being a Bonnie, and loved how Greg played that night.
How can the all time leading scorer for Bona's not have his number hung from the RC rafters? What memories of the year I graduated Bona's 77', the NIT champions and Mister G was the MVP. Please retire Greg Sanders number and hang it high next to Essie Hollis.
This honor is LONG overdue! To hold the all time scoring record for almost 40 years, long before the 3 point shot came into play, demonstrates what an amazing career this man had. Retire 53!!
It's impossible to explain to any sport fan why the leading scorer in your schools history doesn't have their number retired. Seriously??? Recruits look at how the school treated the players that came before them as a symbol of how you will treat them. Raise the banner!
I got married in 1977...my wife and I attended every home game that year including our wedding night.That team, of which Greg was an integral part, turned her on to basketball and made her a life long Bonnies fan. HIS NUMBER MUST RISE TO THE RAFTERS.

I was lucky enough to watch Greg Sanders play for his last two years at Bonaventure. Those of us who lived that remarkable 76-77 season will always be moved by what those players did. Jim Baron, Essie Hollis, Glenn Hagan, Timmy Waterman and Greg Sanders -- made a dream come true for a little western NY school -- a once in a lifetime story. Greg wanted to play for Bonaventure when no one was looking at him. He made that happen and then made his mark on the program with a remarkable career including a 40 point game that will be remembered for decades by those of us who watched Sanders take and hit that shot in MSG and by those looking back on Bonaventure basketball history -- the way I do in thinking about Bob Lanier and the Stith brothers. Sanders record has stood the test of time.

I was at Niagara from '77-81 and saw Greg Sanders destroy us on several occasions. I cannot believe SBU has not retired the jersey/number of it's all-time leading scorer. It's a no brainer.
