What you are currently reading is a petition to have the Sin's Past story arc of the Spider-Man comics retconed. The reason for this is that the majority of fans believe this to be in the top three worst Spider-Man story arcs of all time. There are many reasons for this belief, so let's go through a couple.

The plot just didn't fit - Not only was the arc way too dark for a Spider-Man comic, it was so in the shadows that I would likely have expected it from a New Earth Batman comic, and that's not even Marvel! A well loved character (Gwen Stacy) was taken and blatantly slut shamed for the sake of a plot device (The Stacy Twins). What was even more infuriating is that the originally proposed idea for the arc, the kids having been Peter's, is so much better and would have proved to be a much better plot twist.

It was horribly received - When it's said and done, ninety-nine percent of people didn't like this story arc. In fact most of those who didn't like it, outright hated it. Hell, even the person writing it didn't like the final print. The editors of the Spider-Man comics likely would have won many bro points with the fan base if they had retconed it sooner, but it has been stated that when the writer of the comics of the time wanted to retcon this arc, he wasn't allowed and it still holds up in Earth-616 canon today. If you care about the fan base at all, please retcon this arc and show that you do.

Sin's Past was pointless - Creating this arc meant absolutely nothing due to a later retcon that was pulled off by the very same writer. The retcon of Peter's marriage to Marie-Jane Watson was a bad decision in of itself, but that fact that is was there only a couple of years after Sin's Past was published means that bringing up Gwen Stacy or anything relating to her at that point brought absolutely nothing to the table. It did nothing more then leave a sour taste in our mouths for the character Gwen Stacy, and Marie-Jane Watson wasn't even around long enough after that to seem better in comparison.

There you have it, thee legitimate reasons why Sin's Past should be retconed by the writers and editors of the Spider-Man comics. Please sign this petition and it can be sent to the Marvel offices who I'm sure will pay attention with enough signatures.

Yours,

Callum O'Connor
