The highways department confirmed today that they will implement the new restrictions we requested for the roundabout. These changes represent a significant improvement for the safety of everyone living and working in our community. I appreciate the time you took to read and support this initiative.

We, the undersigned being residents and businesses of Storrington, urge West Sussex County Council/Highways Department urgently to consider effective measures to restrict the size/length of commercial vehicles:

  • turning right from Manley's Hill into School Hill
  • turning left from School Hill into Manley's Hill

as both these manoeuvres cause significant danger to pedestrians, other road users and surrounding business and properties.

Last month a lorry went into our scaffolding on Manleys Hill when trying to turn right at the roundabout, and dragged it into the road and caused damage to our cottage and the osteopath's next door. Luckily no-one was injured, it could have been fatal.

I live on Manley’s hill and the footpath outside our property is too narrow and a big safety issue I have been regularly made to back against the wall at the roundabout at the bottom of the hill with vehicles mounting the tight turn I fear there will be a serious accident Vehicles also approach and leave the roundabout too quickly

Would it not be possible to place a weight limit on the road from Washington roundabout through Storrington and onto Arundel i.e. the A283. This would mean that very large vehicles could not use the road and deliveries would have to be made in smaller vehicles which can negotiate the roundabouts and turnings.

There is a clear alternative route using Water Lane and Thakeham Road for deliveries to the village. All other HGV should be banned. This cannot continue as the A27 A24 cut through!

I live in neighbouring West Chiltingtonton and share Storrington residents' fears that too much large/heavy traffic passes through the village and is dangerous. Especially at the mini roundabout at Manleys Hill. There have been several accidents causing damage to the corner cafe in particular, it's a wonder nobody has been fatally injured.

The pavements near the School Hill roundabout are dreadfully dangerous with HGVs regularly mounting the kerb. It will only be a matter of time before one of the local residents is killed.

Lorry size restriction is imperative at Manley Hill's roundabout as was proven earlier this year!
