Name: Kate Van Dyck on Jul 1, 2011Comments: It is just plain common sense that to best meet the needs of all levels of learners, we need more learning options than gen ed and college level AP or IB courses! There is no proven research that fewer choices close the achievement gap or stimulate higher grades or scores on AP tests. Honors provides a challenging mid-level learning environment for all levels of learners. Tell the Superintendent and the School Board to make it happen now! Our county, our schools and our children need it.High School Pyramid: West Potomac HSFlag

Name: Louise Epstein on Jul 1, 2011Comments: This is a good example of how FCPS could improve instruction without incurring any additional costs. We already have curriculum developed for these courses. And, these five subjects are taken by all students, which means FCPS won't have to incur any additional staffing costs because it can continue to assign 25-35 students to these classes. Don't let central headquarters staff or their allies on the School Board get away with claiming otherwise!High School Pyramid: LangleyFlag

Name: Megan McLaughlin on Jul 1, 2011Comments: As a former Georgetown Admissions Officer and current Woodson HS parent, I am deeply troubled by FCPS' harmful decision to remove these valuable honors courses from the curriculum. FCPS needs to meet the academic needs of ALL students, and honors courses provide a much-needed alternative to AP or Standard (General Education) courses.High School Pyramid: WoodsonFlag

Name: Lori Weinraub on Jul 1, 2011Comments: My daughter really needs these courses. I fear she won't be able to handle the rigors of so many AP courses but will benefit from honors English and Social Studies. Please stop assuming that every child is advanced and would thrive if pushed harder. My girl is wonderfully average and I want her to thrive, not break.High School Pyramid: Lake BraddockFlag

Name: Anne Thompson on Jul 1, 2011Comments: One of my kids is a bright student but not academically motivated. The AP level courses are too demanding for him but the gen ed classes will not be able to keep him engaged. By not having a middle of the road option for him I have to either put him in an AP class where he will not excel or put him in a gen ed class where he will be bored and loose any enthusiasm for learning. The spectrum of learners is too wide to have only 2 options available. We need to have at least a 3rd option to keep our students feeling engaged and succesful without the stress and thought of failure.High School Pyramid: West PotomacFlag

Name: Elizabeth Dobrenz on Jul 1, 2011Comments: It would be helpful for our third child who is a rising Sophomore if honors level English and History classes were made available. Standard classes do not meet his needs, while AP classes require more time than he is able to commit. One of our two daughters would have benefited from an honors English class her Junior year as we did not want to overload her schedule with 4 APs. She was miserable in the standard English class and did not learn a thing. Honors English would have been a more desirable alternative.High School Pyramid: Madison High SchoolFlag

Name: Kerrie AL Peterson on Jul 1, 2011Comments: We have a college freshman who took 4 APs her senior year and had to choose between an AP English class which would have given her 5 APs or a general english class. She would tell you that these general english classes were not challenging and she would have preferred to take an honors-level english class both years.High School Pyramid: WestfieldFlag
