USA residents only.: Petition to Restore Former Felons Civil and Constitutional Rights 1.) The Penal Codes of the United States define crimes and provide the punishment for such crimes. 2.) The legislature enact such laws which define crimes and provide the punishment for such crimes, depending on the seriousness and degree of such crimes. If all crimes were so serious so as to grant society the right to punish convicts after completion of sentence, I believe that the legislature would make them punishable by imprisonment for life. 3.) Completion of sentence constitutes a payed debt to society. If a crime is punishable by 2 years imprisonment and $2,000 fine, then that's all the person who committed the crime owes to society. 4.) Punishment after-the-fact or after completion of sentence is cruel and should not be allowed. 5.) Deprivation of civil or constitutional rights after completion of sentence is unconstitutional and should not be allowed. Citizens who are convicted of crimes remain citizens and ought to have the same rights as citizens who are not convicted of crimes. They too are required to pay taxes on income, property, and many taxable purchases and therefore are entitled to the equal protection of the laws. 6.) Automatic Restoration of civil and constitutional rights is right and should be allowed. We, the undersign petition this government to enact either a civil rights amendment or law granting all former convicts, whom have completed their sentence, their civil and constitutional rights and further petition this government to amend the civil rights amendment to include an amendment guarantying former convicts employment and housing.
