In the Early 1970's Epiphany was changed to a Sunday that falls betreen January 2 - 8. Since that time, by moving the date to a Sunday, the feast has lost much of its meaning and significance. January 6 is the offical traditional date that ends the "12 Days of Christmas". It also celebrates the very important revolation of the Christ Child to the Magi and to the Gentiles. Epiphany is the the manifistation of his powerful presence; the Glory of God. Many countries in Europe celebrate Epiphany on January 6 where it is a official Holiday and has more importance and Solemnity than even Christmas itself. Therefore, we, the Catholics of the United State of America implore the US Council of Catholic Bishops to resore the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord to its original and traditional Date of January 6. Furthermore, it should be declared a Holyday of obligation to emphasize the importance and signifigance of the feast. By restoring this date, the tradition, importance, and significance of this great Feast can be recognized in the United States. Thank you.
